However, there are more things to consider when choosing a commercial washer, other than just how much you have to spend. 

In this Maytag commercial washer guide, I’ve done my homework to prepare a comprehensive list of the things you need to think about when shopping for a new commercial washer. I’ve also put together a list of 5 Maytag washer models that I recommend, to help you jumpstart your decision-making process. Keep reading to learn all you need to know.

If you’re buying your first commercial washing machine, here are some things for you to consider before settling on a Maytag washer. If this isn’t your first rodeo then feel free to skip this section.

What to Consider When Choosing a Commercial Maytag Washer

Intended Use

Where do you intend to use the washing machine? Think about your intended use to help zero in on the right commercial washer for your needs. Maytag (and other brands) sells washers intended for multi-housing properties like apartment buildings, hotels, and even laundromats. Your needs will be different depending on where you want to install the washer.

For instance, if you’re looking for a washer for a laundromat, then a vended commercial washer should be your choice. On the other hand, an apartment building or hotel might be better served by a non-vended washer. More on vended and non-vended washers later.

Load Capacity

Once you’ve thought about your intended use, the next thing to think about is the number of people you expect the washer to serve. This will determine the load capacity to choose for the washer.

Maytag’s single-load commercial washers have their capacities indicated in cubic feet, with the smallest having about 3.0 cu ft. The multi-load models’ load capacities are labeled in pounds; the smallest one can hold about 20 lbs. 

If you plan to serve a large number of people at a time, consider getting multi-load models. Single-load commercial washers work best in laundromats or apartment buildings where individuals do their own laundry.

Vended vs Non-Vended

A vended commercial washer operates like a vending machine; users pay using quarters before operating the washing machine. These types of commercial washers are ideal for laundry businesses where customers serve themselves.

However, coin payment is slowly becoming (or has become) antiquated. You’ll have to count lots of coins at the end of each day and handling cash is always insecure. It’s also inconvenient to your customers, who have to carry around piles of change when they need to do their laundry.

Card-operated washers are the modern version of the coin models. With these models, you won’t handle cash, thus reducing the risk of theft. You can also keep track of your revenue.

Non-vended washers don’t require prepayment, simply load the washer and start the cycle. If your situation requires prepayment, I recommend getting a card-operated washer over the coin-operated models. 

Soft-Mount vs Rigid-Mount

Rigid-mount (or hard-mount) commercial washers are bolted directly onto the laundry-room floor to anchor them and prevent vibrations. Because of the high RPMs of these commercial washers, they must be installed on concrete floors.

Soft-mount washers don’t require to be bolted to the floor, making them easier to install. They are designed with shock absorbers that dampen the rotational force of the washer, thus preventing vibrations. 

Here’s a quick breakdown of the difference between rigid-mount and soft-mount commercial washers.

These two types of washers are part of the multi-load models. So, you’ll have to decide between either one if you’re looking for a commercial washer to serve a large number of people.

Warranty

Also, consider the warranty offered by the manufacturer. For a commercial washer, I recommend a warranty of at least 5 years, to ensure that you have support within the period it would take for you to recoup your investment.  Thankfully, Maytag offers a five-year limited warranty on some of its models. The higher-end washers get a 3-year warranty on all parts and 5 years on the cabinet, drum, bearings, seals, and shaft.

Six-Point Suspension

Maytag’s six-point suspension is a vibration-absorption system found in the company’s front-load commercial washers. It’s made up of springs and dampers that prevent the drum’s vibrations from transferring onto the washer cabinet. This reduces vibrations and, as a result, lowers the sound level of the washer. 

Intelligent Controls with M-Series Technology

This is an intuitive control panel that’s found in some Maytag commercial washer models. With this feature, you can price wash cycles differently. The intelligent control also allows you to set different prices for different days or times of the day.

Deep-Water Wash System

This feature is found in Maytag’s top-load commercial washers. The system allows the washer to fill the tub with water and use more vigorous cleaning movement. This feature is meant for heavily soiled loads and it works in collaboration with the PowerWash cycle.

Stainless Steel Build

Maytag’s commercial washers have a stainless steel build to enhance durability. All models have a stainless steel cabinet and a galvanized steel front panel. 

Flex-Vane Agitator

This is Whirlpool’s patented agitator design, and since Maytag is a part of the Whirlpool company, its top loaders benefit from the same feature. The flex-vane agitator has flexible vanes and a unique shape. This design improves the movement of clothes during a cycle, ensuring that all items are evenly cleaned.

Price – I’ve selected models at different price points to offer an option to buyers with different budgets.

Maytag MAT20CSAWW Commercial Top-Load Washer

Main Features

• The Maytag MAT20CSAWW is a coin-operated washer.
• It has a width of 27 inches, a depth of 26 inches, and a height of 44.5 inches.
• Its capacity is 3.27 cubic feet.
• The motor has ½ horsepower.
• It has a flex-vane agitator.
• There are 4 wash cycles and 5 water temperature levels.
• This model has a Deep-Water Wash System.
• Its cabinet is made from galvanized steel.

This Maytag commercial washer has an industrial look that’s common among commercial appliances. Its spartan design underscores its durability. As you’d expect, this washer is made from galvanized steel, so it should handle heavy use.

Inside, there’s a ½-horsepower motor that’s standard in top-load commercial washers. Maytag also borrowed the flex-vane agitator from Whirlpool and used it here. If you have a self-service laundry business, then this coin-operated washer might be what you need. Plus, for a commercial washer, it’s reasonably priced at less than $2000.

Maytag MAT20PRAWW Commercial Top-Load Washer

Main Features

• This model is compatible with card readers.
• It has a capacity of 3.27 cubic feet.
• The washer’s width is 27 inches, height is 42.5 inches, and depth is 26 inches.
• The motor has a power of ½ hp.
• It has a Deep-Water Wash System.
• This model has intelligent controls with M-Series Technology.
• The cabinet is made of galvanized steel.
• There’s a flex-vane agitator.
• It has 4 wash cycles and 3 wash options.

Unlike the model above, the Maytag MAT20PRAWW is compatible with card readers, making it a more future-proof commercial washer. This model is also not as spartan as the one above, although it still has the typical industrial design. What makes it different – other than the lack of a coin slot – is the control panel. Maytag calls this an intelligent control with M-Series Technology – I’ve spoken more about this in the features section above.

Inside, you get a flex-vane agitator and a ½-horsepower motor, both of which are standard in Maytag’s top-load commercial washers. Interestingly, the Maytag MAT20PRAWW is priced lower than the coin-operated model above, although I believe you get more value from this one.

Maytag MHN33PDCWW Commercial Single Load, Front-Load Washer

Main Features

• The washer has a width of 27 inches, a depth of 28.8 inches, and a height of 44.6 inches.
• Its capacity is 3.1 cubic feet.
• It has a coin slot.
• Its maximum spin speed is 1000 RPM.
• The washer’s legs are adjustable.
• There’s a six-point suspension system.
• This model has 3 wash cycles and 2 wash options.
• There are intelligent controls with M-Series technology.

If you’re looking for a commercial front-loader, this model is one of Maytag’s most affordable, with prices as low as under $2000, depending on the store. It’s a coin-operated model, which I’ve mentioned is rather antiquated in the 2020s. However, Maytag knows this as well so they made this model compatible with their Clothespin app. Among other features, this app also allows you to make payments using your smartphone, making this a future-proof commercial washer.

This model is also energy efficient; it has the Energy Star certification and Maytag estimates that it uses about 10.7 gallons per cycle. 

Maytag MYS20PN Commercial Multi-Load Soft-Mount Washer

Main Features

• The Maytag MYS20PN has a width of 28 inches, a depth of 28.4 inches, and a height of 43.8 inches.
• Its capacity is 2.74 cubic feet.
• The washer can hold a load of 20 lbs (9 kg).
• It has a stainless steel top and front.
• Its sides are made of painted steel.
• There’s a 4.5-inch LCD screen.
• This model has customizable cycles.
• It has a soft-mount design.

The Maytag MYS20PN has a sleek design that’s unlike the other commercial washers on this list. Its stainless steel front and top give it a high-end look as well as a durable build. The sides, however, are painted steel, but they are most likely going to be concealed when the washer is installed.

Speaking of installation, this is a soft-mount model, so you need not bolt it on the floor. And when you need to have it serviced, the front panel underneath the door comes off to offer access to the inner parts.

Maytag MYR20PD Commercial Multi-Load Rigid-Mount Washer

Main Features

• The Maytag MYR20PD has a rigid-mount design.
• It has a width of 26 inches, a depth of 27 inches, and a height of 44 inches.
• Its volume is 2.6 cubic feet.
• It has a load capacity of 20 lbs (9kgs).
• There’s a 4.5-inch LCD screen.
• This is a vended washer.
• It has Maytag Connect 360 Technology.

Although the Maytag MYR20PD has a coin slot, this isn’t the only mode of payment for this model. You can use different payment systems here, making it the most flexible washer on this list. Also, thanks to the Maytag Connect 360 technology, you can keep track of your revenue and even set different prices for different cycles. All this is done easily via Maytag’s smartphone app. 

At first sight, the MYR20PD has a similar look to the MYS20PN model above. However, this model is a rigid-mount washer, so it needs to be bolted to the floor. Sadly, this limits you to using it in concrete or steel-floor premises.

Electrolux makes high-end appliances with premium price tags, and the company’s commercial washers are no different. In fact, you’ll have to reach out to the company directly to get the price of their commercial washers. 

Price aside, if you’re looking for an excellent commercial washer for your business, this model offers top performance with several wash programs. Best of all, it’s an efficient appliance that’s guaranteed to offer you savings on water and energy.

Whirlpool CAE2745FQ Commercial Top-Load Washer

If you’re looking for an affordable and reliable commercial washer, the Whirlpool CAE2745FQ is a good choice. It has a coin slot for collecting revenue, but you don’t get the option of another payment system. 

Under the hood, there’s a standard ½-horsepower motor that works together with the flex-vane agitator to deliver a quality wash.
