Samsung is a globally renowned brand with expertise in making almost every type of electronic. Their washing machines are a staple in numerous homes around the world, and for good reason. In this Samsung washer model guide, we’ll share some tips for choosing the perfect one for your home. 

But I’m sure you’re wondering whether Samsung washers are actually any good. The simple answer to this is, yes. 

Yale Appliances rated Samsung front-load washers as the most reliable based on this reliability study. Meanwhile, J.D. Powder did a customer satisfaction study and their findings found Samsung front-load and top-load washers to elicit the highest customer satisfaction.  

This is good news if you’re leaning towards getting a Samsung washer. It’s important that you enjoy having your washer since they’re likely to last you 10 years or more, with proper care.  So, how do you choose the right washer? Keep reading to find out.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Samsung Washer

1. Your Budget

Samsung has a variety of washers at various price points. The low-end Samsung washers cost from about $560 to $700. At this budget, you won’t get any smart AI features, and a majority of models in this range are top loaders. However, the appliances are still quite effective at cleaning your clothes. Some of the low-end models have features like Samsung’s ActiveWave Agitator that’s known to make little noise.

If you wish to spend slightly more, the mid-range washers cost from $700 to $1000. If you’re interested in a smart washer then this price range will offer you a few options. The most affordable in this range is this model, which costs about $800. Its larger counterparts cost $900 and $949.

High-end Samsung washers cost from $1000 to over $1700. The most expensive washer costs $1709, offering a large capacity and some of Samsung’s iconic features like FlexWash and noise reduction. The highest-priced top-loader costs about $1200. 

2. Your Washing Load

There are Samsung washers with various capacities, with the smallest one measuring 2.2 cubic feet. This one is perfect if you live alone and have small washing loads. There are standard-sized washers with capacities of 4.0 cubic feet to 4.5 cubic feet. 

If you always have a large load, perhaps you have a big household, then Samsung’s large-capacity washers with over 5.0 cubic feet, all the way to 6.0 cubic feet, will be right for your needs.

3. Front Load vs Top Load

Consider whether you want a front-load washer or a top-load washer. There are numerous options in Samsung’s inventory. Top-loaders are often more affordable than front-loaders but are considered less energy- and water-efficient.

Front-loaders, on the other hand, are more efficient than top-load washers but will take longer to clean. 4. Available Space

Consider where you’ll install the washer before selecting one. You need to be sure that the washer you get will fit the available space and that the pipes are at the appropriate height. 

A 5.0-cubic-foot Samsung front-load washer has a width of about 27 inches and a height of 38 inches. Top loaders of a similar capacity will have about the same width but they’re often taller. A top-loader with 5.0 cubic feet should have a height of about 44 inches.

Also, make sure the available space leaves a gap of between 1 and 3 inches on both sides of the washer. You’ll also need to make sure there’s a space of about 6 inches at the back to allow room for the water and drain connections.

5. Energy and Water Efficiency

Consider an energy-efficient washer to avoid high electricity and water bills. Look for the Energy Star certification, which assures you that the washer will use less water and energy. An Energy Star washer is expected to use 33% less water and 25% less energy, according to the certifying agency.  

Samsung has several Energy Star washers with the cheapest being this 5.2-cubic-foot top-load washer, which costs $649.  

6. Agitator vs Impeller

An agitator is a post in the middle of the washer that turns back and forth in the wash process as it rubs against the dirty clothes. Impellers, on the other hand, are a sort of disc that moves the clothes within a washer, causing them to rub against each other. 

These design differences grant each type of washer a set of pros and cons. Here are the main differences between washers with agitators and those with impellers.

Samsung has a number of washers with either an agitator or impeller.  The company’s agitator models are top-loaders like this 4.4 cu. ft. washer with the Samsung’s ActiveWave Agitator. All front-load washers and a couple of top-loaders (like this model) have impellers. 

7. Noise Levels

Sometimes overlooked, but the noise level of a washer is important to consider. If you’ll be placing your washer near your living room or in your kitchen, you’ll need to look for a washer with low noise levels. As we mentioned in this article, a washer with a noise level of about 50dB is ideal. Mercifully, Samsung washers are known for their Vibration Reduction Technology that limits vibrations and keeps noise levels at a minimum. 

Consider a washer with either the standard Vibration Reduction Technology or the more advanced VRT Plus, which is even more silent. 

8. Extra Features

Think about any extra features you’d find handy to have in your washer. Some of these features include WiFi connectivity that allows you to remotely monitor and operate your washer. You can also consider a washer with steam washing or high-speed wash cycles, which Samsung calls Super Speed. 

Other features to think about are soft-close doors, fingerprint resistance, self-cleaning drums and ADA compliance.  The more extra features you want the more you’ll have to spend. So, if you’re on a tight budget, you might want to forego some frills.

9. Warranty

Finally, consider the warranty given by the manufacturer. Samsung offers a warranty of about 24 months on their washers. This is an assurance of good quality. Add to this the brand’s reputation of reliability and you’ll be sure that your washer will serve you for years to come.

Top Loaders and Front Loaders

Samsung has a variety of both front-load and top-load washers, with the top-loaders generally costing less than their front-load counterparts. 

Sizes and capacity

Whether you want a compact washer for a small apartment or a large-capacity one, Samsung offers a variety of sizes and washer capacities for your specific needs. Here’s a look at the different sizes and capacities of Samsung washers.

Compact

The smallest Samsung washer is a 2.2 cu. ft. front loader that has a height of 33.5 inches, a width of 23.63 inches, and a depth of 27.1 inches.

Mid-sized

The mid-sized washers range from a capacity of 4.0 cu. ft. to 4.5 cu. ft. You can get either a top-load or a front-load Samsung washer in this size category. At the moment, there are only one 4.0 cu. ft. washer model in Samsung’s family. It’s a top-loader with a height of 44 inches, a width of 27 inches, and a depth of 29.3 inches.

Both 4.4-cubic-foot and 4.5 cu. ft. top-load washers have the same dimensions as the cu. ft. models. Samsung’s front-load 4.5 cu. ft. washers are shorter than their top-load counterparts, with a height of 38.7 inches. The width of these models is 27 inches, but they have a longer depth of 31.3 inches. 

Large-sized

Large-capacity Samsung washers start from 5.0 cu. ft. to 6.0 cu. ft.

A 5.0 cu. ft. top loader has an almost similar size as the mid-sized washers. These models have a height of 44.6 inches, a width of 27.5 inches, and a depth of 29.4 inches. You can also get a 5.2 cu. ft top loader with a height of 46 inches, a width of 27 inches, and a depth of 29.3 inches. 

In contrast, a front-load 5.0 cu. ft Samsung washer has a height of 42.4 inches, a width of 29.4 inches, and a depth of 35.4 inches. The company’s largest washers have capacities of 5.5 cu. ft. and 6.0 cu. ft. These models have the same dimension with a height of 46.9 inches, a width of 27 inches, and a depth of 34 inches. 

Smart Features

SmartThings app

Some Samsung models have WiFi connectivity that enables you to remotely operate your washer via the SmartThings smartphone app. You can start the washer while away from home or set a specific time for the washer to start the cycle. The app also alerts you once the cycle is complete.

Still, the SmartThings app is able to monitor the number of pods used and can tell when you’re about to run low. At this point, the app will order new pods on your behalf.

Smart Care

Samsung also boasts the Smart Care feature in some of its models. Via the company’s Smart Washer app, you’ll be able to troubleshoot your washer via your phone, in case of an error.

Whenever there’s an issue, the washer will display a barcode that you can scan using the app. This will enable the app to identify the problem and share with you the steps to solve it. 

Energy Star Certified

Energy Star is the US government certifying agency that identifies and certifies energy-efficient appliances. Samsung has a number of Energy Star certified washers that assure you of low water and energy consumption.  The most affordable Energy Star certified Samsung washer is a top-loader that costs $649. The cheapest front-load Energy Star Samsung washer costs $749.

Noise Reduction

Samsung’s main noise reduction feature is known as Vibration Reduction Technology or VRT. As implied by the name, this tech lowers the vibrations produced by a Samsung washer, consequently reducing the amount of noise emitted.

Some models have a higher level of this tech known as VRT Plus. These models have added vibration resistance; Samsung assures us that VRT Plus washers have 40% less vibration than standard VRT washers. 

Other Features

Flex Wash

Some Samsung front-load washer models have the Flex Wash feature. These models have two separate washers in one: the main front-load washer and a smaller top-load washer above. This handy feature allows you to wash two separate loads at the same time.

Samsung has two models with the Flex Wash feature. The lowest-priced one costs $1399 and it boasts a large 5.0 cu. ft. main washer that’s loaded from the front and a 1.0 cu. ft. top-load upper washer. The pricier Flex Wash model costs $1529, boasting a 4.5 cu. ft. front-load lower washer and a 1.0 cu. ft. upper washer. 

AddWash

Add Wash is a feature in some front-load models that’s basically a tiny door on the main washer door. You can add extra clothes through the AddWash door after the cycle has started, in case you forgot some when loading the washer. This feature saves you from having to stop the cycle to add in more laundry.

Active Wash

This feature is found in some Samsung top-loaders. It’s an in-built sink on top of the washer with a water jet that fills it. This section is meant for pre-washing any stubborn stains by hand.
